Aaron’s word of inspiration this week is peanut butter.
I love peanut butter. I will legit just take a spoon and eat it right out of the jar sometimes. But mostly I put it on things haha. Like s’mores. Mmmmmm s’mores…
When I was little, my brother and I complained about our school lunches so much that by the time I was in grade 2 (Le Brother in 3) my mom was like “I’m done, make your own lunches then!” so from that moment until basically high school when it was starting to be “no nut products in schools at all” my brother made himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for lunch. When I was in school, one student in my class had a nut allergy so just my class couldn’t have nuts, not the whole school.
And then, when my brother was around 18 or so, he was getting ready to apply to the royal military college to keep up his air cadet lifestyle into a career, he had some things show up on a physical that they were puzzled by. He took an allergy test and wouldn’t ya know, he had developed an allergy to legumes! Peanuts are actually legumes, not nuts did ya know? So now he has an epi-pen and can’t eat them.
Allergies are such a strange thing. How they can develop, or disappear over time. When I was living in South Korea, I asked once if I was allowed to bring peanut butter to work, because I was new in the country and it was something I was comfortable eating from the store haha. And they looked at me like I had 5 heads and asked why. Nut allergies aren’t a thing there.
Talking about it with my coworkers last weekend when we were all out for a fun Sunday group activity and then lunch. One mentioned that it’s because we put so many hormones and things in our foods and that totally checks out. It was also the opinion in Korea when I was there. The West eats so many processed things and things that have been added to by science that we have just developed allergies.
It does make sense. But it also kinda sucks haha.
What are your thoughts on allergies? Do you like peanut butter?
