After the Venturing

I am exhausted!!!

Okies so be prepared for a whole bunch of random things all thrown into one post cos I’m too tired to separate them out!

As mentioned two days ago, yesterday I went out to have a little adventure. After church, I grabbed a quick bite to eat from Tim Hortons while waiting for a bus and went downtown. It was a GORGEOUS day out, and apparently I was right on theme. I sent a picture of myself to a friend who replied:

So clearly it was going to be a great day.

While waiting for the bus, I saw this thing right behind me:

Which apparently are all over Ottawa but I am very skeptical that the pizza would actually be good? Like…really? How could it be?!?!

And also, right at my feet was this randomness

For those of you who don’t know, Joni Mitchell is a Canadian singer. But what a weird place for this embellishment.

Anyway, it was a quick 25 min bus ride downtown from church and I got off right in front of parliament. I took a bunch of selfies, if you have my password for private posts, they will be posted tomorrow, but also just enjoyed the beautiful autumn colours along the locks.

I was headed for the National Gallery, where I had a ticket for 11:30am. I got there a little early but thats ok! They still let me in, and after dropping off my coat at their free coat check, I started on my way.

I hadn’t been in an art gallery in over two years so it was just so nice to be inside one!! I didn’t take a lot of photos because I wanted to enjoy the experience, but I did grab a few to share with you. The details of each are after the paintings

Just absolutely beautiful!

I also loved the statues, because like how can you carve bugs into a shawl to make them look like they are hand sewn into fabric but YOU CAVED THEM INTO MARBLE?!? I DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS SORCERY!!

I love the very old paintings and am not really one for contemporary works of art, but this display really was spectacular. It went all the way to the top of the second floor’s ceiling

Then of course, there was the Canadian/Indigenous wing. My favourite part is always “the group of seven” paintings. Here are two of my favourites

Sorry for the blurriness on that last one.

Since I needed to be annoying, I kept sending my brother pictures of naked ladies.

When I was done at the art gallery it was about 1:30pm. I was gonna meet a guy at 3pm when he finished work, and he works somewhere close by, so I had some time to kill. I knew I would so I had brought a book with me.

I headed to Byward Market and the I just HAD to stop at the Beavertails stall!! I got myself a classic, plus a cup of hot apple cider, and found a Muskoka chair in the street market to relax in the sun.

I stayed for about an hour reading. But it was too hot in the sun and too cold in the shade so I decided to try to find a coffee shop to wait out the rest of the time.

The guy I was going to meet had to work. He’s a sous-chef. The night before he said someone had just quit and walked out. He was supposed to be leave at 8 but was still there at 10. Poor guy! I knew this might also be the case yesterday. As I was going to find a coffee shop, around 2:30, he texted and said it was still busy and they had a large party still and didn’t know if he’d be out by 3. I didn’t mind since I knew this might happen at 7:30 that morning. I told him I was still in the market and would grab a hot chocolate and if I didn’t hear back from him by 4 I’d just go home.

I saw a Tim Hortons just a few steps away but it didn’t have a “sit inside” option. But then noticed a Starbucks sign a few steps further. Which happened to be in a Chapter’s store!! Aka a big book store. But also happened to be closed due to covid restrictions… but I did manage to spend from 2:30-3:45 in the book store roaming around! Here are some cute things I saw!

I also took pictures of all the books I noticed that I wanted to read and when I got home I added them to my library “for later” list. All but one that is. I placed that one on hold. Since I am hold number 747 (for reals guys!) I am confident that it won’t be my turn before I am done the books I have now haha!

By the time I left, I was exhausted and crashing HARD! I bought a few games with some gift cards I had though!

I let the guy know I was heading home and that we could plan something later this week. He got back to me about an hour later and said that sounded good and apologized. I’m trying not to let the last guy cloud my perception of this one and hope that we still do get to meet this week and its not just his way of blowing me off, but we will see. If he legitimately had to work, I’m totally fine. But sometimes the questions do pop up.

Tomorrow’s post will be password protected. If you have it, feel free to use it. If you want it, please email and I can let you know if you can have access. Sorry but there are some pretty tight guidelines on it.

  1. I can’t wait to get back into a gallery, and it’s only been 7 months for me!

I know you didn’t get to meet up with the guy, but it sounds like you still had a lovely day. I think your attitude rocks! xx
