Attempting a new technique with varying results!
Alright so I had this idea while I was at school. Every month there is a community newspaper that goes home and since last week was a short week (Monday AND Thursday off) it was a little bit of a scramble to get it out on time. My co-teacher runs into my class at the end of the day on Wednesday and is like “in your backpack, backpack, backpack!” to every student haha. I took one and said I’d do newspaper nails and so I have!
Here is the video for it. At the start I use my new e-file so that’s pretty exciting!!
So I was using gel polish for this video because I want it to last longer. BUT if you are using regular polish, the steps are the exact same. Base coat, polish colours, top coat, alcohol, newspaper, top coat.
After I did my two first accent nails, I decided that it wasn’t too overwhelming, so I wanted to do the rest of the nails.
As you can see, the newsprint isn’t very distracting and it kind of just blends into the nail. So I wanted to do all the nails with the print on them. And I made a few discoveries that I will share with you.
First of all, here is a picture of my left hand all finished and top coated and ready for life:
So let’s pick apart the mistakes that I made:
First, the middle and ring finger. These two nails are the ones from the video. I did the clear top coat of regular polish and let it dry for about 5 minutes. The video that I watched said that you needed to let it dry, so that’s what I did. The newsprint still transferred, as you can see, but it’s not the best.
The pinky is the nail I did after I decided to do all the nails and it didn’t get any top coat. The polish did transfer but look at how lame it is. Super lame. My right hand has all three bonus nails with no top coat and it’s just bleh.
Now, my thumb and first finger: these have the top coat and only dried for about a minute before I dipped them in the alcohol and applied the paper. For next time, I would do this for all the nails. It helps the transfer go a lot better.
Not sure how long these nails will last, but at least they are ready for school tomorrow! My students are going to be so excited!
