Canadian National Anthem

Alright peeps and meeps! I’ve got a little rant so buckle up. There’s no time for popcorn!

So I was watching hockey on Saturday (Leafs won, btw, against Washington, just so ya know *insert smug look here*) and I actually had to listen to the Canadian national anthem being sung. TWICE! Cos I was I the middle of something at 10 when the Calgary/Colorado game started!

So a few years ago now, I think, they changed the Canadian national anthem. It went from “in all thy sons command” to “in all of us command”. Apparently there was just too much maleness going on in that one line for people to handle.

Just so you know, I’m never going to sing it that way! I may randomly throw in some French since we had to sing the English/French hybrid in school, but there is no way I’m singing that stupid line.

There, rant over. Go about your business.

  1. Political correctness has gone nuts. It’s possible to say things without having nasty, bigoted, racist, discriminatory underlying meanings. People have become too sensitive. *my rant over*

  2. Every time I hear the new version, I trip over that part of the anthem. It’s not engrained in me. I don’t really see the purpose of the anthem at sporting events in the first place, but that’s another story.
