This past weekend, my kidlets went on a road trip to Pennsylvania. Without me. 3rd had a soccer tournament.
I had planned to go and had spoken to three different people in the general area being all “I’m going to be in the US so let’s do something, ok?!” There were cupcakes and coffees and drinks involved and I was excited. But then I was told the whole work-family wasn’t going so I cancelled. Then they were, then they weren’t. I finally just gave up and made plans here for the weekend instead. But, in the end, they all ended up going and I was left in charge of 11 teenagers for the weekend.
Which actually went ok! I worked extra hours adding the equivalent to two extra shifts to my week. Which is fine since I’m missing two at the end of next week for Thanksgiving so it worked out really well! YAY.
I only had to be the adult once – I told the girls living at my house that they needed to be home at 10pm Friday. One was home at 8:30, and the others rolled in at 11:15 to a very angry me sitting in the kitchen. They got a lecture and had their extended curfew pulled for the remainder of the weekend. Good thing that one girl came home early because she had a BTS concert the next night.
Then my kidlets came home! I hugged 4th for a normal hug and then “nope I’m not done yet!” and held on for about 3 more hugs worth. 3rd had a great soccer tournament (his team placed 3rd overall) except for one thing: the American players were throwing racial slurs at him and his teammates.
These are 11-year-olds, playing other 11-13-year-olds. And when the other team was losing they decided to start yelling racial slurs! I was shocked!! My poor kid! And the ref’s didn’t do anything because they didn’t hear them. I’m really upset that his experience was tainted by that.
And then, on the way home, their dad started to get sick. I packed an overnight bag to stay because their aunt called to fill me in and ask if I was able to. When they got home I was told it was ok he didn’t want to go to the hospital. So I went home and showered, got into pjs, and then got a call saying that now he had decided to go. The kids were all in bed when the parents left at 9 (thankfully they were all exhausted from their long day) and I snuggled up on the couch and settled in. The parents returned around 1:30 with the news that it’s probably just something minor and I was able to go home and sleep in my own bed.
I’m sure today everyone is going to be tired and cranky, and I’ll add myself to that list. But for right now, I’m going to catch a quick nap and try to snap myself out of the cranks before they set in!
How was your weekend?
Blooming ‘eck. That sounds like a packed weekend! It’s a shame you couldn’t join them on the trip, but it all worked out well in the end! 😀

It was a shame! I was really looking forward to seeing some people if I got the chance to go. But you’re right! It did all work out 😊 I’m glad it’s over though haha can’t wait for a day off now

What part of PA was it? Just curious… I was in Maryland for a wedding where Fella and I were the token white couple. We had a blast and it was quite a cultural experience! 😀

The tournament was in Erie. I didn’t know this while making plans though. I didn’t realize the state is so big haha! I just talked to the 3 people I know who live in PA or close to a border lol. Rookie mistake.

Wow, what a shame that those kids acted like that! Sad when kids that young have picked up on stuff like that.

It definitely is! I’m so upset that he had to experience it. He didn’t seem like it affected him too much so I hope that it didn’t.

Ugh kids can be horrid. Sounds like his team beat them – karma!

Yes they did beat them! Hehe but that is also the reason they think for the racist comments.
