B is for Benoit, Andre Benoit!
Andre Benoit played for the Rangers from 2001-2005. In other words, he was there the entire time I was in high school and eventually left after his over-age year. He was part of the team that won the Memorial Cup in 2003, which was when I was in grade 10. He was a solid player and I’m actually shocked that he didn’t go straight into the NHL after the 2004-2005 season, although he eventually did end there with his first season being the 2010-11 one in Ottawa with the Senators. He bounces around a lot after leaving the Rangers but is currently playing in the AHL for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Like I said, Andre was part of the team that won the Memorial Cup in 2003. For the city of Kitchener, that was a big deal. It’s like if your favourite team won the Stanley Cup. It’s big. So anyway, the city threw a huge parade and had a celebration at City Hall once the team got back from the tournament. Since by this time, I was a full year into my hockey obsession, I was in the crowd with my friends and our cameras. We had pushed our way up to the front of the crowd to get the best pictures and then this JERK decided to walk right in front of me JUST as I was about to get a great picture of whoever was my current Ranger crush. So, being the sassy 16-year old that I was, I shouted out a swear at this idiot who was talking in front of me (yes, teenage T swore…) and he turns around and it was Andre. Whoopsie! But Andrea, darling, learn how to walk through a crowd babe and you wouldn’t get yelled at.
Let’s Go Rangers.

Okay, so I think I’ve worked it out. NHL = national hockey league and based on the clothing I’m assuming ice hockey? … I just went to check your theme reveal to see if I could learn more. I had thought national hockey league but maybe it is high school? Your theme reveal says you went to high school with the team, but wouldn’t they be too young for a national team? We don’t have a big ice hockey presence in Australia!

Oh goodness! I didn’t even think about spelling out the leagues! Im so sorry! Yes NHL is the national hockey league that has teams from all over Canada and the USA. The OHL is the Ontario hockey league and has teams from Ontario only plus 3 USA teams (2 from Michigan and 1 from Pennsylvania) The players are all 16-21. With 21 being considered “over age” and each team can only have 2 of them I think…
Thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation! I am *totally* digging your theme and can’t wait to read all the letters!

You are more than welcome! I sometimes forget that people outside of Canada and the USA won’t know what I’m talking about haha. There are a few leagues in later posts that I had to google but I just but their acronyms after haha.
