Let’s catch up

I’ve been absent for a few days, and this is why.

I feel like I have no time! It’s not like I’m doing anything special or exciting most days, but I just feel like I have no time and nothing of substance to put up here. And I’d rather post nothing than something not well thought out. not including the unicorn in a tutu, because that was just too cute not to share.

But it has been a crazy two days for me, so I thought I would make a nice long Sunday morning post for ya’ll to read over your coffee before you even have the chance to wipe the sleep from your eyes. Those are the best posts, right? Right!

So here we go!

Bff-R wrote her nursing exam on Monday. Once she had a date booked, we planned a road trip for the following Friday. That way we could do something and she could enjoy it. On Thursday this week, she found out that she passed her test! YAY!! I knew she would because she’s amazing. But I never expected her to find out so quickly. It made Friday so much better. We had planned to go that castle I had posted about a while ago, but alas it was closed last week for renovations. Instead, we took a road trip up the Huron coastline, around where my parents live.

Friday morning, I grabbed my car rental and headed her way. Morning traffic wasn’t too bad and I made excellent time. We packed up the car and headed for the beach! Now, I hate the beach. I’m two shades from albino and a ginger which means that the instant I step into the sun, I’m toasted like a marshmallow over a fire. Mmmmm roasted marshmallows

But it’s the middle of September so I was hoping for not getting sunburnt. And I didn’t! We got to Grand Bend just at lunch time and we took our packed lunches down by the water and sat under a gazebo and ate. It was a GORGEOUS day.

After lunch, we set out on a search for Beavertails. For those of you not fortunate enough to ever eat one, don’t get your panties all in a bunch – it’s not an actual beavertail. It’s this fried dough thing which is auh-mazing. We walked down the main strip of Grand Bend and almost all the shops were closed. Like, ok, I get it – it’s a Friday afternoon in September but STILL! It’s 30 degrees out! OPEN YOUR STORES!! One of the places that was open was a tattoo place so I snapped a picture and sent it to Mr Potential with no words attached at all. And then a sign for axe throwing. That sounds like a great day! A new tattoo and/or piercing and then some axe throwing. Awesome. Sadly, the Beavertail place was closed so no fried goodness for me.

Then onto Zurich to a thrift store. This place is amazing. I wanted some fall/winter warm shirts and promised myself absolutely no books. So I walked out with one long sleeved sweater, 3 light cardigan type things, and 4 hardcover children’s books. All for the grand total of $11. That’s right folks, ELEVEN DOLLARS. I love that place. The books were Dr Seuss and an anthology of Beatrix Potter stories so I was totally fine shelling out twenty-five cents a piece for them. Even when I found out I already own two of the Dr Seuss books, I wasn’t even upset. I just took the thrift store ones over to work and said: “here – take these”.

We then drove through St. Josephs – a little place I’ve never actually driven through before. There was this really pretty garden that I pulled a u-turn on the highway to stop and look at.

We then headed over to Bayfield, to look in their shops. These are all touristy places with great little boutiques and stuff so going once a year is a great way to spend the day. Bff-R loves the shops there, and so do I. And when we left, Bff-R had bought Henry for me.

Next stop: Kate’s Diner. This is kind of a little bit of a dive but the food is sooooo yummy. It was only 3:30 but we were ready to eat. We got dinner, burgers and the most amazing milkshake I’ve had in a long time, but the main reason to go there is for the pie. They have drool-worthy pecan pie. The waitress said they had some so we ordered two pieces to go (plus a piece of apple for my mom) and got ready to leave. But guess what! NO PECAN PIE. Huron County: get your act together! I drove allll the way out there for a beavertail and pecan pie and I left with nothing!! NOTHING I say!! Ugh…I had to settle for chocolate cream, which is still in my fridge waiting to be eaten.

We then dropped in on my mom. My dad was away on business but we stayed for about 20 minutes to play with the puppies. The drive home was great until I dropped off R and then it took me an extra hour to get home. I was driving 40km/h (25 m/h for you American friends) on the highway which is posted at 100km/h (62 m/h). Gah traffic!! But overall such an amazing day! I arrived home utterly exhausted and ready to sleep, but spent the next hour or so texting Mr Potential before I couldn’t hold my eyes open anymore.

Saturday was work and then a movie date with Mr Potential. We planned to meet for a 5 pm movie which meant that I had about 45 minutes from work ending to having to leave to catch a bus. And I actually got ready in 30 (walk home, full change, full face of makeup to put on, plus take off/brush/put back on my hair AND throw all my essential stuff into a new purse)! I think I deserve a medal for that. I arrived at the theatre, and since I suggested a movie date, I bought our tickets. 4:45 arrives and I get a text from him saying he’s there, but I can’t see him. After texting for a few minutes we realise we are at two different theatres!! OMG. Thankfully it was easy enough to refund the tickets and catch a bus to where he was. And it also meant we had time to grab dinner before the movie. We saw American Assassin which was great! And then had a nice little roam around Yonge street afterwards. I even found one of those umbrella cover stands that I loved when I was living in Korea! I’m glad we switched theatres because it was so much easier, and faster, to get home from where he went.

I have a friend who is wanting to have “the talk” with Mr Potential. She won’t tell me what this talk is going to consist of, but since we’ve been dating for almost a month now (next weekend!), she’s brought it up as something that needs to happen soon. I keep trying to push it off. Right now it’s working because, since Friday, I have awoken the desire to get a new tattoo in me! And she is literally covered from head to toe with tattoos. I just want a small one of a hippo on my wrist, and after the “do it!!!!” from both her and Mr Potential, I think I might just have to. Even though I promised myself no more after 4 – but it’ll be small so it’s ok, right? Yeah – my thoughts exactly! 😉 Be prepared for a post about that when it actually happens.

So now that we are all caught up on what’s new with me – what’s new with you?

  1. I am still new to your blog so learning about you but I am guessing you are in Canada? Please don’t be offended if I guessed wrong!! I just got back from Canada it was beautiful! I love road trips, even if you could not get your pecan pie and beaver tail it seems like you had a ton of fun!

    • The beach I went to is 3 hours away. But Toronto does have a harbour front so thats close! And I really am enjoying pur dates 😁😁 I got all excited about my tattoo and then my mom squashed it. But it would be my 5th and no one really knows that I have any so I don’t think I’m in danger of over doing it.

  2. I’m digging your thrift store finds. Cute hippo. Sounds like you had a great time with your BFF. I will say this…I don’t think the talk needs to happen anytime soon. I think we rush things with dating and it scares men off. Just go with the flow. Mr C and I had the talk after 6 months of dating. It was another 6 months before we got into a relationship. I always hear men say that we women rush them and they never just get to know us without thinking we’re trying to marry them tomorrow. Just enjoy your friend.

    • Yeah, I’m keeping my friend at bay for as long as possible. Although he knows she wants to talk to him. I’ve prepped him for it lol It will basically be the “if you hurt her, I will hunt you down” talk. I am just enjoying our time right now 🙂 It’s definitely different than anything else I’ve had with a guy – which is good. I like new and exciting. And even after a month I still get massive butterflies when getting ready to see him. Definitely not pushing it to be more than it is to ruin that.
