Obviously, I am going to be talking about the Weasleys today. How can you do a Harry Potter challenge and not talk about the Weasleys?!
But I only want to talk about my favourite ones: The twins.
I love the twins – Fred and George are awesome. Yet, I always feel kind of sad for them. Always referred to as a duo, never really doing anything on their own. And then all the hardship that comes to them, George getting hurt and Fred dying. It’s so sad!
Once again, I find myself relying mostly on fanfic for this post (and basically for the rest of the challenge). They have been able to express my feelings perfectly, so let’s give them the credit for it.
Mostly, this one fan’s write up expresses my feelings perfectly:
So let’s start off by giving some props to the twins. They probably started off a little bit like this:
And then, of course, we all have to go here:
How impressive was that?! Yeah…let that sink in. But can anyone explain to me how they figured out the exact words to make the maurader’s map work the first time? Filch obviously wouldn’t have known or told them.
And they definitely had some of the best lines in the whole series.
Then, of course, there are the “after death” posts – which justΒ rip my heart to shreds.
The last straw for my heart was when I read this, not about the Weasley twins, but about the Phelps twins (who play them).
I can’t imagine having the bond that twins do, but if I ever lost my brother (my best friend), I’d be shattered.
Just look at these two in real life:
oh yes, fred & george, my favorite duo in crime, I like to pretend fred never died, nope, he just went on some solo vacation for a while…
have a lovely day.

I’m not crying, YOU are! *sniffles* It gutted me when Fred died. It shoulda been Percy. He received his chance to redeem himself, ya know? So he coulda totally been the one to die without any regrets.

Yeah I was the same when Fred died. It was so sad. I’m not sure who I would have had die in his place, but I’d actually probably would have preferred Ron. If JK put Hermione and Fred together, then I think Ron would have been the one to die instead. Or if she wanted to just kill us even more killed Fred anyways. lol

I agree with you. It could have been Ron and I wouldn’t have given much of a shit lol.

Not to take away from your excellent post, but the first image reminded me of something else that bugs me about the HP universe. Does EVERYONE marry their high school sweetheart? Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione, George and Angelina just in that photo alone. Are there so few wizards and witches that you just have to grab onto the first one that gives you the time of day, because you may never find another single one?

LOL so true!! That bothers me as well. Although, it was Fred who took Angelina to the Yule ball not George π but that makes it even more shudder worthy in my mind because she then later married the other twin. Maybe JK just wanted to keep it all neat and tidy and not have to explain/invent any other characters? Luna did marry outside of cannon though!

Great post! And yes, I’ve always wondered how Fred and George knew the magic password for the Marauder’s Map…

About the password, I’ve always wondered that too, but I can just picture the two of them just throwing phrases out there until one of them actually worked, and naturally (the twins being the twins) it would be “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good” because those two are just like James and Sirius. Remus was always the most level-headed of the Marauders, although he wasn’t above a good prank himself (the level-headed part reminds me of Hermione). Harry of course is James, both twins could be Sirius (I know, I know, they couldn’t be serious if they tried)…sorry, I had to. π And Ron is definitely Peter…he never actually betrayed his friends, and he would die before doing so, but going off and leaving them like that in the middle of their Horcrux hunt simply because he was jealous of the relationship he thought Harry and Hermione had (the idiot), he might as well have done so because it put them in a really dangerous position a couple times that might not have happened if he had been along…then again, it might have been ten times worse, because Ron has never been the brightest crayon in the box and sometimes has to be heat in the head with a bludger before getting a clue.
As for the “Mischief Managed” part, the map itself probably told the twins how to wipe it so no one else could read it, figuring that two newbies would need the instructions, and probably offered a few pranking suggestions along the way.
Luna marrying Rolf was kind of cannon, as he’s the grandson of Newt Scamander, author of one of their textbooks, so at least his name is mentioned in the original books, even though we’re told absolutely nothing about him until the new book. (Other than figuring out on our own that he had to be a little bit crazy to go looking for all those magical creatures :P)
And Draco didn’t marry his “high school sweetheart” as he was always paired with Pansy throughout school but wound up marrying Astoria Greengrass, Daphne’s younger sister. Percy married some witch named Aurora, not Penelope Clearwater, who had been his girlfriend at Hogwarts. Penny probably got tired of his pompous ass attitude. π And I could see Draco finally tiring of Pansy’s clinging to him all the time, plus even though they never really said so, I think he was trying to get away from the whole “pureblood superiority” bit, realizing that it was getting him nowhere. Neville and Hannah never even dated at Hogwarts, you never even really saw them hanging out together except at DA meetings, so that one was kind of out of left field (although it does make sense). I can’t really think of any of the other pairings at the moment, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.
