Live-action remakes

I have been noticing a trend lately with all the live-action remakes of movies, and I’ve got to say, I’m not really diggin’ it.

What is with this new obsession to remake old Disney movies? Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, now The Little Mermaid (although a much different story), I’ve heard rumours of a Snow White remake as well.

But is it really worth it? I’m sorry but none of these movies are making me love the old ones any less. I’m intrigued by them to see how well they have retold the story but I am often left disappointed and wishing I was smart enough to bring all my Disney DVD’s with me to watch the original version at my house after.

If any movie from my childhood needs to be remade, it’s Ella Enchanted. I know I’ve gone on about this like a bazillion times, but listen up Hollywood! It was a horrible job the first time and anyone who has actually read the book will support this. You failed us, so maybe it’s time to get it right and not cast Anne Hathaway in it this time, yeah? Speak about horrible life choices Hollywood…

So what are your thoughts? How do you feel about all these remakes?

  1. I think some of the remakes are quite good. I doubt the intention is for these to replace the animated Disney ones we all love. I think they’re just retelling the story as not-a-cartoon. Also… Disney movies are well-loved… I’m sure they know they’re going to make boatloads of money…

I can’t wait to see Beauty and the Beast. And The Little Mermaid… I’m kind of looking forward to that, too. But… Tangled… IF they ever do that one, I had better be consulted for proper casting of Flynn/Eugene!
