Too many pigs….
Do you ever have flashbacks to your childhood? The great flashbacks, where you are having the most fun in the whole world. Things that you have totally forgotten about over the years?
Yesterday I had one of those flashbacks.
We had a little bit of an over-energetic, not listening, evening so after dinner was just some quiet time with the kids. Once we were finished with snacks, and the bedtime bathroom routine was started, I found myself sitting on a bed, with the entire collection of Jillian Jiggs on my lap in one magnificent volume.
Now, if ya’ll have never heard of Jillian Jiggs, I suggest you go down to your local library and educate yourself. It doesn’t matter how old you are! Just do it. You won’t be sorry.
I actually ended up reading this entire volume of stories. There are only 5 or 6 stories in it, but man the flashbacks that happened! Especially around The Wonderful Pigs of Jillian Jiggs. This is by far my favourite story. Jillian makes her own pigs using pantyhose and buttons.
She makes big ones and small ones, girl ones and boy ones. One with long eyelashes, and one with a hat and a cane. It’s adorable!
When I first read this book, I was HOOKED! There are instructions in the back on how to make your own pigs! And pigs I made! I think I might have made more than Jillian. It was so much fun. My mom had a button box (still does actually) and we would dump it all out and search for the most perfect button for a nose, some for eyes, and special shaped ones for decorations.
Reading this story last night brought back all of those amazing memories and warm fuzzies. It was amazing.
