Christmas is coming!! I love Christmas – the songs, the presents, the food, the excitement, the traditions, the snow, the decorations. Everything about the season makes me happy.
During Christmas, I have to admit, I act like a child. Probably more than usual. It’s not my fault! I just get wrapped up in the whole thing. I love doing all the silly little things that come with Christmas, making cookies and decorating them, decorating the house, wrapping presents, feeling up my stocking to see if there is anything new in it even though I think my parents are trying to ween me off the expectation of stockings (good luck with that parents….)
I love waking up early Christmas morning, making breakfast and then waking everyone else up. I always make breakfast so I make sure EVERYONE is awake by 8am. No sleeping in allowed! Sadly the rule of “no breakfast until you have wrapped all your presents and placed them under the tree” has been applied in my house. Le Brother seems to think that after breakfast is a perfect time to wrap. Let’s be perfectly clear: it’s not.
What I really love about being a child at Christmas is the advent calendars. Who doesn’t love eating a piece of chocolate for breakfast every morning?! And they are easily available at many grocery and dollar stores.
I usually have one – my mom even sent one to Korea with me last year. Although, full disclosure, I ate it all before Christmas haha. But I usually have self-control with them. I love the cheap ones from the dollar stores since they usually come in cute princess designs (so I can feel even more childlike). There are TONS of different kinds of advent calendars though, not just cheap chocolate ones.
Lindt makes one with delicious chocolates in it. Kinder makes an expensive one – inside has chocolate and sometimes little toys:
My old BFF (I’ve referred to her as Angela on this blog) used to have a homemade one. It was felt and instead of doors for each day, there was a little pocket with a number on it. Since she has two younger brothers, she only got something once everything 3 days. But it would be a toy! She would get little bottles of nail polish or lip smackers, her brothers would get little toy cars and stuff. Such a great idea.
I have always imagined building my own little advent calendar – out of wood with little drawers in it. I’m sure it would be a LOT of work, but a girl can dream can’t she?! And my dad is a whiz at word working so I’m sure he could/would help (read as he’d do it all).
Then, of course, there are “adult advent calendars”. The ones filled with wine or beer:
But I’m all for the cute little ones that are unique and you can fill with whatever your little heart desires (chocolates, candies, nail polish, etc). You can find lots of designs on Pinterest.
I have decided this year that I want to turn my blog into an advent calendar for YOU. A musical one. Each day in December, I will post a new Christmas-related song for you to enjoy. There will be some of my favourites and just some silly ones that I have found. I’m looking forward to sharing a little bit of Christmas with all of you!
If you have any suggestions on which songs to include in my musical advent calendar, feel free to post in the comments below or send me an email at: noloveforfatties @ gmail.com (no spaces). Or if you just feel like sending me a little message, don’t hesitate to use the email for something totally random. I appreciate the random and I reply to every email 😉
**please note: any suggestions for Britney Spears Christmas song covers will not be taken seriously. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience**
