Reflections

Taking another writing course through Blogging University, this time Poetry 101. Today, day two, has us writing a poem on the topic of reflections.

Every morning the same,
The reflection of the bathroom walls behind me,
The day has begun without us,
Now it is our turn to begin.

I stand, examining every angle,
Looking for the flaws,
Seeking them out,
Those hidden in the deep crevasses of my mind.

The glass has no voice,
Yet I can hear it calling,
Screaming at the top of its lungs!
There, and THERE, AND THERE.

The top wispy hair,
Almost translucent at this point.
The scalp shining through,
How unwomanly of you.

The eyelashes too light,
Eyebrows too thick.
Skin, too white and patchy.
Red flushed cheeks showing too much emotion.

The glass has no voice,
Yet I can hear it calling,
Screaming at the top of its lungs!
There, and THERE, AND THERE.

The brushes spread out,
The powders, the creams, the pencils.
A quick puff on the tools,
As colours change and blend into one another.

Braids part down the back,
The bottom half full and thick, the top lifeless.
Slip on the mask, so no one will know,
Hid underneath weave so no one will see.

The glass has no voice,
Yet I still can hear it calling,
Screams muffled into whispers now,
There, and THERE, AND THERE.
