Past Memories, Favourite Quotes

In the process of cleaning out and packing up my room, I have found several journals that I have started over the last few years. I have a habit of starting to journal and then stopping a few months later, then buying a new book I think is pretty and starting the cycle all over again. I’m hoping with blogging that I can curb my obsession with cute journals. In hopes of collecting all my thoughts in one place, this weekend will be devoted to the content of those pages from 2010-2011. Here is a collection of quotes I once loved, and still find comfort in.

The most beautiful things in life cannot be seen or touched, they must be felt with the heart – Helen Keller

Life is short: break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile – unknown

People are only as happy as they make up their minds to be – unknown

Walk with the dreamers, the believers, the courageous, the cheerful, the planners, the doers, the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better then when you found it – Wilferd Peterson (my favourite quote from university that still guides me today)

A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing – Maya Angelou

Oh, my friend, it’s not what they take away from you that counts. It’s what you do with what you have left. – Hubert Humphrey

This is my wish for you: comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, friendships to brighten your being, beauty for your eyes to see, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, love to complete your life – Anonymous

Begin challenging your assumptions. Your assumptions are the windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while or the light won’t come in. – Alan Alda

Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your own subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grade. A soul generated by love. – Martin Luther King Jr.

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world. – Jack Layton (upon his death, summer 2011)

We fight not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. – Ted DeKker (White, pg 363)
